Hi Red, we all start somewhere. It looks like you are hunting for options on how she can communicate the function of Refusal - she's doing it by signaling and using the actual object. Students learn to use other systems by seeing us model those systems. Pictures/symbols/communication devices do not naturally occur in the everyday environment, so by just introducing them to a student for them to use, is often met with disinterest or rejection of those AAC tools - they need to see them in use by the people around them. This is the researched based strategy known as Natural Aided Language Stimulation. You'll find information on that strategy with a search here and other AAC sites.

Go into the Forum area and do a further search on Refuse so that you can get other ideas on how to introduce new modalities to your student on how to show you that she doesn't want something or wants to avoid something.
