AAC and concrete vs. symbolic communication

Hi!  When administering this assessment, do you consider use of nouns in an AAC system depicted in pictures to be "concrete symbolic" or "abstract symbolic"?  I believe a more abstract concept depicted in pictures on a device such as "go" or "more" would be abstract symbolic, but the nouns are more concrete.  If it is concrete, then is it the case that these words would not be communicated through abstract symbols for nonverbal communicators?  Thoughts?
