I have a friend who uses AAC who taped a piece of paper to the back of her device mount (facing outwards) that says "My name is ___ and I understand everything you say." This seemed to help a bit.

When using AAC in the community, I notice that communication partners look to me (or other person with the individual using AAC) instead of the person using the device. I try to use non-verbal and verbal cues to indicate that the student has an AAC device and would like to communicate a message but often times they still look towards me. Is this an issue others have as well and do you have any strategies for helping community members to honor AAC?
